Mechanical Engineer (based in Penang)

Purpose of this position

The incumbent is responsible for assisting the Maintenance Manager in managing the workshop and leading the maintenance team to perform maintenance equipment reliability-related job functions in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Principal responsibilities

1. Support and perform maintenance functions in a timely and cost-effective manner, achieved by:
2. Supporting turnaround management.
3. Introducing and implementing new and effective maintenance skills.
4. Originating and developing analysis methods for determining maintenance demands for components, equipment, and processes.
5. Acquiring maintenance data and analyzing it to avoid delays and make recommendations for improvements.
6. Implementing and checking the effectiveness of SAP PM tasks.
7. Updating and reviewing SAP PM tasks periodically.
8. Managing maintenance activities within budget.
9. Supporting all northern and other area plants as required.
10. Conducting analysis of maintenance-related problems and investigating to determine the outages required for the situation, considering cost limitations for equipment up/down time, repair/replacement costs, weight, size, and availability of materials/equipment.
11. Supporting workshop management by the site team.
12. Improving, upgrading, and maintaining workshop facilities and management.
13. Guiding supervisors and mechanical technicians in performing their tasks and responsibilities, establishing good maintenance practices.
14. Supporting reliability-related job functions by:
15. Performing failure root cause analysis to troubleshoot and avoid repeating events.
16. Setting up a lesson learning/sharing database for operation and maintenance personnel.
17. Improving maintenance personnel skills at a high level of safety, competency, quality, and reliability by:
18. Developing, establishing, and executing the training plan for maintenance supervisors and mechanical technicians.
19. Conducting training and proficiency tests for maintenance personnel.
20. Establishing a maintenance management system for supervisors to perform major and critical maintenance activities.

Required qualifications/experience

• Bachelor's/Master's in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of experience in the fields of operations and maintenance of chemical industrial gases or manufacturing setups.
