Job Description SummaryLead the application of CI Tools to accomplish an assigned business improvement in a specific organization.” The CI Specialist is expected to apply tools ranging from one tool within one familiar organization to multiple tools across multiple unrelated organizations worldwide. Each CI Specialist will manage 4-8 people during each CI tool application event. This will be a virtual reporting relationship requiring a high degree of influence skills. The CI Specialist must possess a very high level of leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. This position requires extensive training to maintain varying degrees of certification. Each CI Specialist will execute events within assigned budgets that could generate potential savings. Job Responsibilities
Get assignment from CI Action Team or from CI Tool Expert
- Review the CI application event Scope Document to understand the business improvement to be generated and the tool to be utilized.
- Discuss the details of the proposed CI application event with scope document creator and clarify missing or questionable information.
- Assemble basic business information for the target process of the CI application event.
- Confirm the completeness and internal / external consistency of the scope document.
- Review Scope Document with CI Tool Expert and confirm acceptability of the proposed event.
Plan and prepare for CI application event.
- Understand focus and intent of key stakeholders.
- Estimate the time required for the event.
- Plan logistics of CI application event (e.g., location, date & time, meeting room, materials, supplies, food, job aids, etc.). Solicit appropriate assistance or other expertise when necessary.
- Prepare event goal statement and agenda.
- Acquire information on how work standards are established, changed, and audited.
- Plan and prepare communication to all participants and key stakeholders.
- Prepare participants for event and resolve any final problems.
Execute the CI application event.
- Focus the event; orient the participants to the goal of the CI event and review the agenda.
- Establish ground rules and reinforce team-based performance skills.
- Coach performance and manage differences among participants.
- Observe and evaluate the target work process; map the process if necessary.
- Identify waste and brainstorm opportunities for improvement.
- Solve the performance issue and act to improve the target work process.
- Ensure accomplishment of business results and achieving the goals set by the team.
- Establish measures to be used by the local organization to sustain the improvements.
Communicate the CI event results to the organization where the CI event occurred.
- Prepare team report out to the organization.
- Complete a CI application event binder (a repository of information about each CI application event which can be used to support continuous improvement).
- Submit the event binder to the Organization Leader, Organization CI Champion, CI Action Team and CI Tool Expert.
Achieve business results from tool deployment.
- Assist Organization CI Champions and CI Action Teams on the use of tool(s) to accomplish business improvements.
- Summarize and report business results achieved from specific CI tool event.
Ensure personal excellence in application of tools.
- Measure personal effectiveness in eliciting performance and coaching the use of CI tool(s) to accomplish business improvements. Support the larger CI Community of Practice (COP).
- Benchmark performance against others who teach and use tools within and outside the company.
- Review learning from CI tool events and benchmarking activities.
- Identify areas of strength and development needs with respect to instruction and tool mastery.
- Acquire and use new expertise to elevate proficiency.
- Search out learning opportunities to close gaps in areas needing development and to leverage areas of strength to the greater advantage of the business.
