Job Location: Senai, Johor
Summary:
The position is to be responsible for all engineering and technical disciplines that involve packaging scopes. He/She will be accountable for the end-to-end work scope and work with team members from different specializations when necessary to ensure complete work coverage. The incumbent is accountable for scheduling, planning, forecasting, resourcing, and managing all technical activities, aiming at assuring project accuracy and quality from conception to completion. The position holder is also expected to provide strong support and work closely with Business Units in driving plant performance, machine reliability, equipment improvement, and minimizing losses.
Responsibilities:
- Independently evaluate and manage assigned projects through planning, organizing, and coordinating projects to assure required standards, budget, and deadlines are met, from conception until completion.
- Communicate internally and externally with cross-functional teams, including vendors, specialists, and suppliers.
- Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel’s performance) and report regularly on project status.
- Design manufacturing layouts, coordinate equipment selections, interact with contractors, and evaluate quotes.
- Review, recommend, test, and assist in the implementation of various proposals for package design. This includes obtaining and communicating necessary information with Plant Engineering, marketing, Product Development, processing, etc.; generating information; and contacting various suppliers for estimates, suggestions, or information; and testing package systems at production facilities.
- Support production equipment as needed to meet the plant performance metrics.
- Provide assistance and direction to Business Units in proper plant procedure and manufacturing methods.
- Provide guidance for preventive and repair maintenance to ensure smooth plant operation.
- Conduct operational tests to ensure designs fall within expected specifications.
- Design and improve processes to increase plant production efficiency and quality.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments and trends in processing and packaging for possible application with Hershey Foods' present and future products. This is achieved through reviewing trade journals, participating in professional societies, attending trade shows and seminars, consulting suppliers, and visiting their facilities.
- Work with buyers and other team members to implement and apply Hershey Foods quality processes.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Preferably 1-2 years of experience in project management in the engineering field, working on projects from ideation to production.
- Basic mechanical knowledge (e.g., pumps, pipelines, valves, gears & bearings).
- AutoCAD and P&ID knowledge with technical drawing experience.
- Electrical and PLC knowledge is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with the following is an added advantage:
- Packaging equipment – Syntegon-BOSCH, Pactec, Mettler Toledo, Ishida, Yamato, LeePack, etc.
- Knowledgeable in packaging equipment will be an added advantage; horizontal flow wrapping machines, vertical fill-form system (VFFS) packing machines, die-fold wrappers, bunch-wrap wrappers, conveyor distribution system design, checkweighers, metal detectors, bucket elevators, multi-head weighers.
Abilities:
- Strong sense of accountability and self-responsibility in working behavior.
- Highly organized and systematic in own work management and project management.
- Clear communication (oral and written) and good presentation skills.
- Able to collaborate with cross-functional teams (internal and external), vendors, suppliers towards common goals.
- Action and goal-oriented in terms of task completion.
- Detail-oriented when handling technical calculations, timeline projections, and financial data estimations.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in the engineering field (preferably packaging system engineering, but not mandatory). Preferable candidate from FMCG / Food / MNC / Pharmaceutical.
