Diesel Service Mechanic

A Diesel Mechanic Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment, such as trucks, buses, boats, and heavy machinery, i.e., generators, air compressors, and fire water pump engines.

Their duties include diagnosing mechanical problems, performing repairs and preventative maintenance, and conducting inspections to ensure equipment is in safe and working order.

Responsibilities of a Diesel Mechanic Technician include:

1. Performing preventative maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and servicing equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and industry standards to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
2. Conducting safety inspections: Inspect equipment to ensure it meets safety regulations and identify any potential safety hazards.
3. Keeping accurate records: Document all repairs and maintenance performed, including parts used, labor hours, and any other relevant information.
4. Ordering and managing inventory: Order parts and manage inventory levels to ensure necessary supplies are always available.
5. Communicating with customers and co-workers: Explain repairs and maintenance needed to customers and coordinate work schedules and tasks with co-workers.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of diesel engines and other mechanical systems to effectively diagnose and repair issues.
2. Physical stamina: Ability to stand, bend, and lift heavy equipment; candidates need to be physically fit.
3. Attention to detail: Pay close attention to detail to accurately diagnose and repair equipment; must be able to write technical reports.
4. Communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers to explain repairs and maintenance needed.
5. Safety awareness: Familiar with safety regulations and able to identify potential hazards to ensure equipment is safe to operate.
6. Certification & Experience: Preferably with a minimum of 3 years of experience. SKM Level 3 / Diploma related to Internal Combustion Engine, Automotive, Heavy Industrial Equipment, Mechanical & Electrical Service Maintenance. Familiar with overhauling and troubleshooting diesel/gas engines such as CAT, DDC, Perkins, Cummins, MAN, and Yanmar.
