Reporting Relationship
The Community Liaison Coordinator will report to the Health and Wellness Manager and will ensure that internal working relationships are developed with all Departments within M’Chigeeng First Nation.
Position Summary
This position will take the lead to carrying out the mandate of the First Nation Band Representative and In-Home Support Services programs, safe and transitional home. The position is responsible for overseeing and monitoring the daily supervision, management and administration of the programs, relative to the effective and efficient implementation of goals, objectives, vision and strategic planning of the First Nation including the development and evaluation while building capacity for sustaining an integrated community-based model of service delivery for the M’Chigeeng First Nation. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality family services with a focus on supporting First Nation families.
Essential Functions
- The Coordinator will familiarize themselves with all Deloitte Literature produced and provided concerning the First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle settlement.
- Develop a communication release to the M’Chigeeng First Nation membership, on and off the First Nation about the Federal Compensation process and include information related to direct access and contact information to Deloitte (Administrator) who is the primary administrator for Federal Compensation.
- Prepare a service pamphlet that identifies the roles and responsibilities of the Community Liaison Coordinator– Federal Compensation.
- Develop presentations for the purpose of sharing information regarding – child welfare – federal compensation.
- Participate and complete in Community events and complete in-services to promote the program and raise awareness of the child welfare – federal compensation.
- Collaborate with team members to develop and implement outreach strategies and new program initiatives when required.
- Confirm and verify the list of children/youth that Indigenous and Mainstream Societies has provided – meets eligibility for Federal Compensation.
- Review existing M’Chigeeng First Nation, First Nation, Band Representative Files to confirm Family involvement with other Societies based on the timeframe (April 1, 1991 – March 31, 2022) – eligibility for Federal Compensation.
- Liaise and complete letters and coordinate meetings with Societies in Ontario where required and needed.
- Review, document and respond to all service-related inquiries from Families regarding potential eligibility when required and advocate and assist to gain access to Deloitte as the Claims Administrator.
- Ensure that First Nation members are referred to the Deloitte Navigational Support Model – service coordinators and care teams for claimants for assistance to gain access to the Federal Compensation.
- Conduct outreach activities to identify individuals and families who may need assistance and access to federal compensation.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community services and external services where required regarding child welfare – federal compensation.
- Provide information and referrals to community services both on and off the First Nation when required.
- Assist families in navigating and accessing federal compensation through Deloitte and act as a resource and advocate when required.
- Follow up with families to ensure that they are receiving the services they need for child welfare – federal compensation.
- Maintain accurate and up to date records of client interactions and services provided for families.
- Provide referral and access when crisis arise and are identified.
- Maintain data and compile a monthly report identifying activities completed and families met regarding child welfare – compensation.
Qualifications
Preferred
Degree in Social Services field (preferred)
Minimum
Experience working in Child Family Services in a First Nation
Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
Clear CRC and VSS
Other Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Always maintains and promotes strict confidentiality.
Knowledge of community and external resources available to families.
Proficient computer skills.
Well organized with ability to multi-task, work well under pressure, and to prioritize workload.
Knowledge of First Nation issues, culture, traditions, customs and practices.
Fluency in Anishinabemowin or a willingness to learn.
Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) required (Current 30 days, original or certified copy)
CRC/VSS Rationale: M’Chigeeng First Nation and its agents are in a position of trust in services to band member children and/or vulnerable adults, so a safe and secure working environment is mandatory. Applicants must provide a clear VSS Certificate, and the CRC must have a record clear and/or dated of any convictions relating to alcohol, drugs, assault, violence and theft. The CRC and VSS must be current (30 days) and must be an Original.
