1. Co-ordinating the Phytopathology laboratory activities
- Lead the disease diagnostics for different vegetable crop samples from commercial and breeding teams.
- Develop and optimize the disease diagnostic protocols as per project requirements.
- Execute and improve the lab-related SOPs, training of staff, and implementation of good lab practices.
- Collect, identify, and mass multiply different pathogen cultures as per need of projects for phenotyping assays.
- Co-ordinate with Enza Zaden labs in other countries for diagnostic delivery.
- Manage the lab material inventory, equipment maintenance, and third-party services.
2. Assist and coordinate different workstreams in Research project delivery.
- Support the execution of research projects for different disease traits in Solanaceous and Cucurbitaceous crops and implement the defined work streams.
- Engage with Phytopathology colleagues and Breeding teams for project planning and implementation.
- Co-ordinate the operational resources for project execution in co-ordination with farm and facility management.
- Engage in phenotypic data collection, analysis, and reporting of the findings in a standard format.
- Participate in regular meetings and updates to stakeholders about project delivery status and outcomes.
- Contribute to innovation and improvements in Phytopathology research, routine disease testing, and diagnostics.
- Visit multi-location disease trials for phenotyping and data collection.
3. Coordinate the delivery of Routine Disease Testing activities.
- Engage in coordinating the technical and operational planning and execution of routine disease testing for different vegetable crops as per the annual demand plan.
- Manage the RDT trials – bench test and sick plot assays, inoculation, evaluation, and data collection, reporting, and presentation of RDT data as per standard format.
- Share regular updates and reports on the delivery of the RDT annual demand.
- Coordinate with lab technician/crop supervisors and support staff for maintenance of RDT facilities, hygiene sanitation, plant nutrition, and crop protection measures.
4. Data and Stakeholder Management
- Independently collect the phenotypic data from research and RDT trials, conduct data analysis using data analysis tools such as Excel, R Studio, and Statsapp, and interpret data for further use.
- Utilize tools like MS Teams and Power BI for report generation, information communication, and networking with project teams.
- Prepare presentations and reports for bi-monthly and annual meetings and present to stakeholders.
- Network and coordinate with stakeholders from different Enza R&D stations globally for delivering various workstreams of Research and RDT projects.
Profile:
• Master’s degree in Plant Pathology (or related field) and/or combined with experience in vegetable crop diseases.
• Must be fluent in English for communication with international teams and in Bahasa Malaysia for communication with local stakeholders.
• Should possess an entrepreneurial and practical attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and be a team player.
