Job Description

Purpose of the Role:

On a day to day basis, the Network Engineer is responsible for Data Centre NOC operation. Oversee complex network components and are responsible for network management. The role is also responsible to perform troubleshooting, entails maintaining network, servers, and telecom equipment in an organization.

Also required to do network monitoring and ensure network systems, devices, and infrastructure to detect and resolve network issues promptly. This includes monitoring network performance, analyzing logs, and responding to alerts and incidents.

Responsible for carrying out planned work. Reporting directly to the GM, Operations, APAC, based out in Johor, Malaysia.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Identify and diagnose network problems using various network monitoring tools, protocols, and techniques. Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, such as connectivity problems, network congestion, and hardware failures.
  • Incident Management: Handle and manage network incidents, including recording incidents, escalating as needed, and ensuring timely resolution. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as network engineers, system administrators, and vendors, to resolve complex issues.
  • Network Maintenance: Collaborate with HQ to perform routine network maintenance tasks, including software upgrades, firmware updates, and configuration changes. Ensure that network equipment, such as routers, switches, and firewalls, are properly configured and updated.
    • Preferably experience in Huawei, Cisco and Palo Alto hardware and understand configurations.
  • Network Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures. Document network changes, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions for future reference.
  • Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor network performance metrics and identify areas for improvement. Recommend and implement network optimization strategies to enhance performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Change Management: Participate in change management processes, ensuring that network changes are properly planned, tested, and implemented with minimal disruption to network services.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with other IT teams, including network engineers, system administrators, and help desk personnel, to address network-related issues. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing timely updates on network incidents and resolutions.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up to date with emerging network technologies, industry best practices, and advancements in network monitoring tools. Continuously enhance technical skills through self-learning, training, and certifications.
  • Manage all IT Assets including laptop configuration, smart hand services and trouble shoot.
  • Communication Skills: Clear communication and able to explain to users and translate that information to technical people.
  • Having the ability to work independently and knowing how to search for information.
  • Hardware Asset management: Ability to maintains and update hardware and software on the given asset management tool.
  • Cyber Security: Able to detect and understand to keep our environment safe.
    • Understand and have the knowledge on how to maintain an ISO 27001:2022 is highly preferred.
  • Monitor network performance metrics and proactively identify and address potential issues before they impact operations.
  • Configure, maintain, and optimize network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless access points.
  • Maintain detailed documentation on network topology, configurations, and change management processes.
  • Investigate and resolve network-related incidents and service requests in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the network engineering team to plan and implement network infrastructure upgrades and expansions.
  • Provide on-call support and participate in an emergency response rotation to address critical network outages.
  • Assist with the development and execution of network disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors/ partners.
  • Continuously research and recommend new network technologies, tools, and best practices to improve operations.
Job requirements

  • Able to troubleshoot windows for EUC.
  • Able to carry heavy loads.
  • Understanding of ITSM tooling such as ServiceNow and BMC
  • Able to communicate in English and Bahasa Melayu
  • Understanding in Microsoft Azure active Directory
  • Have ITILV3 is a plus.
  • Proper understanding of ISO 27001:2022.
  • Have worked with Cisco, Huawei and Palo Alto is beneficial.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data center network operations or related field.
  • Proficient with network protocols and technologies such as TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls, load balancing, and wireless.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting network equipment from leading vendors (e.g. Cisco, Juniper, Arista).
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with network monitoring, automation, and orchestration tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking concepts and services (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CCNP, JNCIA, or other advanced networking certifications
  • Experience with network programming and automation using tools like Python, Ansible, or Terraform
  • Knowledge of data center infrastructure components (e.g. servers, storage, virtualization)
  • Project management or team lead experience

Working environment entails (applicable only to operation team)

  • Walking job sites which have areas of uneven terrain.
