Tax Manager

Tax Manager is responsible for managing the tax accounting staff and the tax planning, reporting, and compliance functions. Oversees the preparation of all tax filings and reporting in compliance with all required regulations. Being a Tax Manager evaluates the tax implications of company activities and develops strategies to minimize the tax obligations. Advises management on future changes to tax regulations and possible impact to the organization. Additionally, Tax Manager may manage and direct relationships with vendors and advisors. Requires a bachelor’s degree. Typically reports to Tax Director or Top Tax Executive. The Tax Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Tax Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.

Our company is looking for a Tax Manager to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure delivery of documents, returns, and payments to SARS at the end of each month;
  • Supervise the Tax Department Staff;
  • Ensure that payments requested from clients are followed up on a regular basis;
  • In charge of the complete dispute resolution process and billing thereof;
  • Manage the administration of provisional tax; meeting of deadlines and complete billing process;
  • Controlling GreatSoft related problems in terms of tax;
  • Oversee the administration of SARS related documentation received, i.e. assessments and other notifications;
  • Assist and advise staff of matters relating to completion of returns and tax administration;
  • Control the input of data thus ensuring an accurate data base and quality assure completion of returns and capturing of data;
  • Manage the IT 14 SD process and Income Tax Review Process;
  • Quality assure 10% – 20% of returns before submission via a review process;
  • Complex queries, tax opinions and other ad-hoc tax related work required by partners;
  • Supervision of whole billing process via GreatSoft;
  • Weekly SARS visits for update of banking details and taxpayer particulars;
  • Resolve disputes on assessments and accounts from SARS, relating to Income Tax.

Requirements:

  • Masters in taxation, CA (SA) or Registered Tax Practitioner;
  • 5 years Tax related experience in a corporate environment (Essential);
  • Experience in a tax environment;
  • Grade 12 with Accounting as a subject;
  • Registered Tax Practitioner;
  • Tax or other relevant qualification.
